Bai Zhu (Atractylodes macrocephala)
Bai Zhu is grown in China, Japan and Korea. The rhizome - the part of the plant that grows underground - is harvested in late autumn or winter and offered either as a tonic or dried-out. Bai Zhu strengthens the spleen, reduces excessive sweating and aids with digestive troubles such as diarrhoea and vomiting. Traditional Chinese medicine values Bai Zhu above all for its positive effect on the Qi flow - the human life energy in the meridians.
