Shijunzi
(Quisqualis indica)
Shijunzi is an evergreen, creeping plant or tree. The botanic name Quisqualis is Latin for "What is that?", due to the many different shapes it can adopt when growing. This climbing plant is native to South-East Asia, India and Africa, and very popular on account of its intensive aroma. In early autumn its ripe purple-coloured fruit is harvested, dried in the sun, and the seeds gathered. Chinese naturopathy uses the skin and seeds. Shijunzi is used to combat lack of appetite, indigestion and constipation.
